CINNAMON


Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the Genus Cinnamomum, belonging to the family of Lauraceae.

The term "Cinnamon" also describes its mid-brown colour. The Cinnamon tree is grown around the world and approximately 250 species of Cinnamon have been identified. However, there are two main types of Cinnamon spice use today: Ceylon Cinnamon, which is sometimes labeled as True or Real Cinnamon and Cassia Cinnamon which is is widely available and commonly used. In addition to theses two Cinnamon which are common, some varieties available include:
Indonesian Cinnamon
Vietnamese Cinnamon
Indian Cinnamon
Malabar Cinnamon

It is used mainly as an aromatic Condiment and flavoring additive in a wide variety of cuisines, Sweet and savory dishes, breakfast, cereals, snacksfoods, tea and traditional foods. The aroma and flavour of cinnamon derive from its essential oil and principal component, cinnamaldehyde as well as numerous other constituents including eugenol.

Cinnamon contains Vitamin Eand B6, Niacin, Magnesium, Potassium, Zinc, Copper, Polyphenol Antioxidants and among other nutrients and chemical compounds.

Several Research have prove the health benefits of Cinnamon upon adding it to our daily meals. Among them include :

1. It helps to manage HIV due to it Antimicrobial properties which extend to Viruses, indicates that it may help fight or manage HIV. A 2016 study in Peer- reviewed PLos One found that Cinnamon derived substance could block viral entry, which the study notes is one of the promising approaches to preventing HIV developing into AIDS. 

2. Its antimicrobial properties help fight fungal, bacterial and Viral elements in foods.
3. Cinnamon can treat Candidiasis.
4. It help treat Type 2 Diabetes.
5. It has an Antioxidant benefits.
6. It cut the risk of heart diseases.
7. It improves sensitivity to hormones
8. It lower blood sugar level and has anti- diabetic effects.
9. It protect against cancer.
10. It enhances eye health.
11. It is a natural insect repellent.
